Lisa Caccioppoli’s paintings are abstract, yet aren’t bound, in the artist’s mind, by the limits of formalism, nor by rigid, self-imposed constraints on subject matter. Inspired by an organic process of thinking and making, the artist renders paintings textural, iconic, geometric, or layered, thus freeing the work from a singular aesthetic. Tone and mood become the common denominators that link the paintings to each other, their subject matter (which is often alluded to in the paintings’ titles) and their audience.

Lisa Caccioppoli was born in New Jersey in 1974. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002, and her BFA from the University of New Mexico in 1998. She has had solo shows at Kasia Kay Art Projects Gallery in Chicago, IL; Project Row Houses in Houston, TX; ThreeWalls in Chicago, IL; and the ASA Gallery in Albuquerque, NM. Her work has been included in numerous group shows across the US and in Germany, including White Columns in New York, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in Texas, and Lothringer Dreizehn in Munich. Caccioppoli currently lives and works in New York, New York.
