Sheila and Nick Pye: A Life of Errors
June 2 - July 8, 2006
Opening reception June 2 from 6-9 pm
CHICAGO, IL: kasia kay art projects gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new show A Life of Errors by Sheila and Nick Pye, on view from June 2 - July 8, 2006. Sheila and Nick Pye are multidisciplinary artists whose innovative work seeks to homogenize the mediums of photography, film, and video, and thus to critique and explore the boundaries of contemporary visual communication. The artists' practice is concerned with the differing and combined perceptions of the moving image and the still image in the gallery context. Interpreting similar subject matter represented in both time-based and still photographic media through their process of art-making and installation further probes these methods of visual literacy and communication. Through photographic, cinematic and performative means, the artists concentrate on the body as both a material and an object. Disengaging tradition and dismantling preconceptions are common themes in the works. The works also explore the artists' interest in the death of the author/artist as subjectified and objectified. The rhythmic and poetic language of the artists' video piece and it's reinforcement in the photographic works in the show raise and question issues of gender identity and representation, while also examining how the tactile politics of public and private space govern the body.
