kasia kay art projects gallery is pleased to announce “The (Un)Real City”by Stefania Carrozzini and“not a bird nested here” by S.J. Hart, two new exhibitions opening May 15 from 6-9 p.m.
Carrozzini’s curatorial project, which runs through June 12, aims to dispose of old ways of viewing society and the art produced from it. She notes that the unification of urban society and cybersocietyin today’s globalized culture has changed the produce of creative outlets. “The City” is a “theatre” in which the visible, invisible, tangible and intangible interact. She interweaves the themes of environment, cultural diversity, urban technology, industrial civilization and lifestyle to portray her artistic view of the parallels and differences among them and how they affect human life.
Carrozzini’s curatorial project will feature international artists: Barbara Bachner, Egidio Castelli, Pino Chimenti, Annamaria Cimbal, De Lutti & Reia, Qin Fengling, Antonio Massari, Claudio Onorato, David A. Parker, Stefano Sabà and Eugenio Vignali.
S.J. Hart’s mixed media works are carefully composed vignettes that explore the themes of childhood and psychological states of being. The artist uses drawing and classical printmaking techniques to create her precious and eerily striking portraits that are set in ambiguous floral spaces. The emotionally charged gazes of the children set the mood in these surreal narratives where birds and other wild fauna become the loyal confidants of the adult-like children. The delicately rendered black and white figures contrast with the voluptuous and decorative backgrounds against which they are set.
